Get ready to show your stuff! This year's bluesSHOUT will feature 6 Blues contests judged by our top-notch Blues instructors and DJ'd by our amazing Blues DJs. We'll also have 2 contests to live music! All contests are free, and you can sign up at the event the day of the contest.
Invitational Jack & Jill
Finals: 12:00am Friday night dance.
This showcase competition is the place for national-level dance instructors to strut their stuff. Invitational competitors may not compete in any other contest. There will be no prelims, just one round of spotlight dancing Jack & Jill style to a live band. The instructors will judge each other based on Blues Aesthetic, Musicality and Creativity.
Open Jack & Jill
Sign up: at event by 4:00pm Saturday afternoon.
Contestant meeting: 4:00pm Saturday afternoon.
Prelims: 4:30pm Saturday afternoon.
Finals: 11:00pm Saturday night dance.
This competition is open to all levels of dancer in any style Blues.
Partners will be selected at random, and you will dance with three different partners in the preliminary round.
Music will be of various tempos and styles, selected by our DJs. Dancers will be judged on Blues Aesthetic,
Musicality, and Creativity.
Strictly Juke Joint
Sign up: at event by 4:00pm Saturday afternoon.
Contestant meeting: 4:00pm Saturday afternoon.
Prelims: 5:15pm Saturday afternoon.
Finals: 12:15am Saturday night dance.
This competition is for partnered couples. The music selected by our DJs will be of various tempos
but will be primarily be in the Country, Delta, and Piedmont Blues styles. You may dance any style of Blues, and
dancers will be judged on Blues Aesthetic, Musicality, and Creativity.
Strictly Ballroom Blues
Sign up: at event by 4:00pm Sunday afternoon.
Contestant meeting: 4:00pm Sunday afternoon.
Prelims: 4:30pm Sunday afternoon.
Finals: 9:45pm Sunday night dance.
This competition is for partnered couples. The music selected by our DJs will be of various tempos
but will be primarily be in the Classic, Piano, and Jazz Blues style. You may dance any style of Blues, and
dancers will be judged on Blues Aesthetic, Musicality, and Creativity.
Solo Blues Cuttin' Contest
Sign up: at event by 4:00pm Sunday afternoon.
Contestant meeting: 4:00pm Sunday afternoon.
Prelims: 5:15pm Sunday afternoon.
Finals: 11:00pm Sunday night dance.
This is a solo dance contest - no partner required. You may dance in any style of Blues dance.
The music selected by our DJs will span the range of the Blues genres and tempos.
Judges will select finalists from the preliminary rounds based on on Blues Aesthetic, Musicality, Creativity and
Interaction, but the finals will be audience-judged.
Champions Division
Finals: 12:15am Sunday night dance.
No sign up, no prelims, no contestant meeting. Invites are based on placement
in a national level Blues competition. We'll have contestants from last year's
Cheap Thrills, Down Home Blues, Rhythmic Arts, Blues Rising and others,
including the winners in each division at this year's bluesSHOUT. Champions
will be competing Jack and Jill style to live music with a range of tempos
and styles. Judges will be looking for the couple who shows the most
Creativity, Musicality, and Blues Aesthetic.
First Place winners will receive passes to next year's bluesSHOUT and an invitation to
compete for cash prizes in this year's and next year's Champions division. Second and
Third Place winners will be awarded passes to one of the following events:
